What to see
The real highlight of a trip to Lizard Island is the opportunity for diving and snorkelling along the coral reefs, an activity much loved by tourists and residents alike. Here you’ll spot beautiful tropical fish encircling the island, and giant clams resting on the sea bed. You can’t miss it, so if you’re inexperienced don’t let that put you off – you’ll find instructors and tours out to sea throughout the summer months.
If you’d rather staydry, there’s plenty to keep you occupied – take a walk through the beautiful nature reserve to the Lizard Island Research Station and learn more about the biodiversity of the island life, or simply pack a picnic and find a secluded beach to laze the day away for an idylling holiday in the sun.
When to go
Lizard Island enjoys a tropical climate, with average temperatures of about 27C – although in the summer months, between October and march, you can expect it to reach around 32C. Don’t forget the sun cream!
